How to survive the summer sun

Whilst the Basque Country is renowned for its unique culture and language, little did you know its weather is hugely fluctuating. Situated in the mountainous north of Spain the Basque country can have every type of climate. In Winter it snows and in Summer it can be nearly as hot as the south, reaching 40 degrees Celsius on some days! Other days it may be cloudier and sometimes rain because the province is on the coast so can get some sea-storms, but it is still never cold when raining in the summer, with temperatures of 15+. It is also possible to have micro-climates within towns and humid thunder storms.

Despite the variation, I love living here and maybe it is due to the variation. It's not like England, raining a lot and not very hot; and it's also not unbearably hot and dry everyday like the South of Spain. So after surviving a weekend of 35+ heat and temperatures reaching up to 40 degrees some of you may be thinking oh my god I'd die in that heat...much of my snapchat/facebook was full of my English friends snapping/complaining about the heat at 25+, here's me thinking, it's like 34 in the shade!...I have compiled 5 top tips for how to survive the heat.

  1. Stay Hydrated Whilst this is probably the most obvious it's also the most important, not only so you don't get ill but also to keep your skin hydrated, and whilst day drinking can be cool, alcohol is dehydrating so not the best idea if it's super hot. But I am definitely not opposed to a Pimms or Kalimotxo at a bbq/party in the evening!

  2. Cool off I love sunbathing, but it's not for everyone and you have to be careful to not fall asleep in the sun. So take some time to cool off either in the shade with a nice ice cold coke (my personal favourite when its hot) or take a dip in the pool if you have one nearby.

  1. Wear comfy clothes ...or a bikini, in heat you don't want to be wearing tight fitting or uncomfortable clothes. Personally, I'd do with a skirt or dress as they are nice and airy.

  1. Style your hair If you have long hair you'll know the struggles of the heat. As soon as it gets hot your neck gets sweaty and your hair sticks to it and it just feels horrible and sometimes your hair even starts to curl from the humidity. The best thing to do is tie up your hair: pony tail, bun, plaits, anything that keeps it off your neck (and then remember to suncream your neck!)

  1. Enjoy! If you are in England or abroad on holiday, enjoy the sun because it never lasts. In England it will be a one-day summer, abroad you will be going home all too soon so you've got to make the most of the sun and enjoy yourself, relax because its too hot to do anything and make sure to work on your tan!

Are you abroad on holidays or staying at home this summer? How is the weather?
